Now taking new mandates

How do lenders compete on a deal?

Lenders compete when more than one sees the same financing at the same time and the company can compare offers. Siddwell's capital advisory is that process: the case is built, the relevant lenders are approached together, and the structure is negotiated. Siddwell does not lend. A bank, an SBA lender, or a private credit fund does.

What 'at once' changes

The failure mode the site describes is familiar. The company needs money for a line, a partner buyout, or a facility that is coming due. It goes to its bank and takes the one number it is given. Nobody put that bank, other banks, private credit, and SBA lenders in a position to bid. A single lender can still be the right outcome. You cannot know that until at least one alternative has seen the file. An incumbent renewal is one bid, not the market.

Competition is not a blast email. The materials have to be good enough that a credit officer can answer. The list has to be lenders who actually finance that kind of company, not every logo in a directory. Offers are then compared on amount, structure, covenant, recourse, and speed, not on rate alone. A cheaper rate with a personal guarantee the owner will not sign is not a better offer. Someone has to read the terms. That someone, on this mandate, is the banker.

Where SBA fits in the competition

An SBA 7(a) or 504 proposal belongs in the set when the use of proceeds fits. The SBA's own pages describe 7(a) as a lender loan with a $5 million maximum, and 504 as fixed-asset financing originated with a certified development company. Lender Match can introduce SBA lenders if you would rather run that comparison yourself. A July 2026 announcement describes combining 7(a) and 504 up to $10 million in defined cases. None of those programs remove the need to see a non-SBA bid beside them when the deal could be done either way.

What to compare once two offers exist

Rate is the number people quote. Amount, structure, covenants, recourse, and who has to guarantee are what change the owner's life. A lower rate with a personal guarantee the owner will not sign is not the better offer. A 7(a) proposal, a 504 proposal for a fixed asset, a bank loan, and a private-credit term sheet can all be real, and they are not comparable until someone reads them against the same sources-and-uses page. That reading is the banker's work on this mandate. The software can draft and chase the documents. It does not pick the lender. The lender still makes the credit decision.

How Siddwell handles this

Siddwell is an AI-native investment bank for privately held US companies with $1M to $100M in revenue, doing sell-side M&A and capital advisory.

Siddwell runs the competition. Software drafts and chases documents. The banker holds the lender relationships and the negotiation. The credit decision stays with the lender.
