Siddwell answers.
Siddwell is an AI-native investment bank for privately held US companies with $1M to $100M in revenue, doing sell-side M&A and capital advisory.
Each page answers one question an owner, a searcher, a sponsor, or a lender asks before hiring anyone. General rules are cited to the SBA, and to the Stanford and NerdWallet pages already used on this site. Siddwell does not publish a fee schedule, a closing timeline, a deal count, or an equity-injection percentage, so none of those figures appears here.
- Does Siddwell lend money?. Siddwell does not lend. It advises on a sale or a financing, and a lender makes any loan.
- Is Siddwell a business broker?. Siddwell is not a business broker. Sell-side M&A runs a buyer market; a broker shops a short list.
- Is Siddwell a loan broker?. Siddwell is not a licensed loan broker. Capital advisory is a competitive financing mandate.
- Who is Siddwell for?. Siddwell is for privately held US companies doing $1 million to $100 million in revenue.
- How is Siddwell spelled, and is it related to Sidwell?. Siddwell is spelled with two d's. It is an investment bank in New York, Siddwell Inc.
- What does 'AI-native investment bank' mean?. At Siddwell, software does the volume of a deal and a banker negotiates. The software does not set the price.
- What happens on a first call with Siddwell?. The first call is with the CEO. It costs nothing, and it is not a commitment to hire Siddwell.
- What is the SBA 7(a) maximum loan amount?. The SBA states a $5 million maximum for a 7(a) loan. A 2026 note describes combining 7(a) and 504.
- What equity injection does SBA require for an acquisition?. SBA change-of-ownership equity rules sit in SOP 50 10 8.1, Appendix 15. This site does not restate the figures.
- What is seller financing in an SBA deal?. A seller note is financing from the seller. Whether it counts as SBA equity is an Appendix 15 question for the lender.
- Can a search fund use an SBA loan?. An SBA loan is a lender's loan for a qualifying business. Siddwell does not lend, and it does not finance the search itself.
- How does an independent sponsor finance a deal?. An independent sponsor raises equity deal by deal. Siddwell does not lend to sponsors or run a committed fund.
- What is a capital advisor, and how is it different from a loan broker?. A loan broker shops a loan. A capital advisor runs a competitive financing. Siddwell does the second job and is not a loan broker.
- When should a $5M revenue company hire an investment bank instead of a broker?. A $5 million revenue company is inside Siddwell's band. Hire a broker for a short list; hire a bank when buyers should compete.
- How do lenders compete on a deal?. Lenders compete when they see the same financing at the same time and the company negotiates more than one offer.
- What is a search fund?. Stanford describes a search fund as a vehicle that backs an entrepreneur who will find, buy, and run a private company.
- What is an independent sponsor?. An independent sponsor raises equity deal by deal, after a company is in hand. A fund invests committed capital.
- What is entrepreneurship through acquisition?. ETA means buying a company in order to run it. A search fund is one way that purchase is financed and paid for.
- Does the SBA lend the purchase price?. No. A 7(a) loan is made by a lender, with an SBA guaranty. The SBA states a $5 million maximum.
- When does SOP 50 10 8.1 apply?. SBA Information Notice 5000-880695 says SOP 50 10 8.1 is effective 1 October 2026 for new loan numbers.
- Can I go to SBA lenders without a broker or an advisor?. Yes. The SBA's Lender Match tool introduces participating lenders, and you apply with the lender.
- Will Siddwell run a sale that is private equity only?. Private equity is in the process. A fund-only call list is not the whole market, and Siddwell is not a private equity firm.
- Does Siddwell finance a search before a company is chosen?. No. Capital advisory starts when there is a company and a use of proceeds, not during an open-ended search.
- How long does an SBA 7(a) acquisition loan take to close?. Siddwell does not publish a closing timeline. The SBA says you apply with a lender, and the lender runs the credit.
- What does sell-side M&A mean at Siddwell?. Sell-side M&A at Siddwell is a competitive sale: a full exit, a majority stake, or a divestiture.

The first call costs nothing.
