Is Siddwell a loan broker?
No. Siddwell is not a licensed loan broker. A loan broker shops a loan. A capital advisor is hired to build the case, take it to more than one lender, and negotiate the structure. The loan is made by a lender either way. NerdWallet states that a broker does not lend. The same is true of an advisor.
How the pay differs, as far as it is published
NerdWallet describes a broker fee of about 1% to 15% of the loan amount, and notes that sometimes the lender pays instead of the borrower. That description is about business loan brokers, not about Siddwell. Siddwell does not publish a fee schedule. Ask any intermediary, in writing, who pays them. An advisor's mandate is an investment-bank assignment: a competitive raise, banker-led, with software doing the volume.
If the only thing you need is the name of a lender, Lender Match or your own bank is enough. An advisor is the hire when the market should have to compete. Capital advisory at this firm covers expansion, equipment, an acquisition, a shareholder buyout, or a refinancing of obligations the company already has. The market is banks, SBA lenders, private credit, and the specialists who finance a specific asset.
What an advisory mandate does not include
A loan file still has a borrower, a use of proceeds, and a lender who signs. Expansion, equipment, an acquisition, a shareholder buyout, or a refinancing can each be that use. The advisor's job, when this firm is hired, is to build the case a credit officer can read, to take it to banks, SBA lenders, private credit, and the specialists who finance a specific asset, and to negotiate what comes back. The advisor does not originate the credit, does not guarantee it, and does not choose the winner by holding the balance sheet. Siddwell is not a licensed loan broker, and this page does not describe a license the site does not claim.
Pay is a separate question, and it is unanswered on this site. NerdWallet writes that a business loan broker does not lend, and that a broker fee is often about 1% to 15% of the loan amount, sometimes paid by the lender rather than the borrower. That is NerdWallet's account of brokers. It is not a Siddwell fee, because no fee schedule is published. Before you sign anything with anyone in the middle of a loan, ask who pays them. If all you wanted was an introduction to SBA lenders, Lender Match does that without an advisor, and you still apply with the lender.
How Siddwell handles this
Siddwell is an AI-native investment bank for privately held US companies with $1M to $100M in revenue, doing sell-side M&A and capital advisory.
Siddwell runs that competitive raise when hired. It does not originate the credit, and it does not hold itself out as a licensed loan broker.
